Trevor will I get blacklisted by a recruiter for persistently chasing feedback on my job application?

This question comes up more often than you think, and the answer may not be what you expect.

Job seekers, you’ve been here a lot…

 • Applying for jobs.

 • Submitting applications.

 • Discussing vacancies with recruiters.

 • Waiting for updates.

 • Waiting…waiting…waiting…

Successful job seekers need take a proactive approach—following up on applications and seeking feedback.

In fact, being proactive often leads to more success than waiting for things to happen.

Most good recruiters will approachable to provide you with feedback and keep you updated on your application and the recruitment process.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth:

⚠️ Proactively seeking feedback from some recruiters can backfire.

Some recruiters (the not-so-good-ones) may see you as “difficult” or “hard to deal with.”

And yes, this could hurt your chances of being represented in the future.

While there’s no formal blacklist, the effect can feel the same...but you'll never really know for sure.

But fear not - there are many recruiters out there and a process like this can elevate the good and weed out the not-so-good!

So, what can you do?

My advice: find the right recruiters and use the right approach.

✅ Find good recruiters to work with.

Good recruiters will acknowledge you, keep you updated, and genuinely care. (Also, remember the not-so-good ones—avoid them. Recruitment is competitive, and other recruiters may be working on the same vacancy!)

✅ Stay polite but consistent.

Follow up professionally and within reasonable timeframes. Every few days is a good balance.

✅ Frame expectations.

Always seek to understand process and decision timeframes so your expectations are aligned to the recruiter.

✅ Focus on mutual benefit.

Frame your feedback as a way to help improve processes for everyone.

✅ Accept what you can’t control.

Not all recruiters will appreciate your effort—but the great ones will.

✅ Stay composed.

Getting frustrated or angry won’t help your chances. Aggressive behavior will almost certainly get you blacklisted.

And to recruiters:

Providing regular feedback is an asset to your personal brand. Remember, some job seekers will potentially be your client of the future (and they will remember you!).

The best recruiters:

🔹 Constantly manage the feedback loop effectively - don't leave job seekers hanging

🔹 Welcome feedback to improve their processes.

🔹 Provide clarity, transparency, and genuine support to candidates.

🔹 Build reputations that drive long-term success.

The others? They’re often forgotten.

Feel free to share your stories and tips below!

I hope this helps 😀
