On Wednesday, 4 September, Talentology hosted its third CareerAGILITY Job Seeker Workshop, with another 30 job seekers in attendance, marking a total of 150 job seekers supported over the last six weeks. This free workshop is designed to equip job seekers with insider strategies and tactics to navigate the often non-transparent and frustrating IT job market, shared by Trevor Churchley, a veteran with 27 years of IT recruitment and professional services experience.
The workshop provided attendees with a range of invaluable insights, including how to deal with redundancy and job loss, the importance of developing a job search strategy, and how to leverage soft skills like self-promotion, networking, and marketing to improve job prospects. Trevor also emphasized the need for job seekers to adopt a proactive, sales-like mindset when marketing themselves in the competitive IT job market, highlighting that 70% of vacancies are never posted on job boards, and 80% are filled through networking.
With the ongoing challenges in the job market, Trevor’s approach stressed the importance of professional networking, being visible on platforms like LinkedIn, and mastering soft skills to stand out in a crowded field. The workshop also provided practical tips for improving self-confidence, working with recruiters, and controlling the job search process.
