This is one of LinkedIn’s most debated topics—and for good reason. Opinions need to change from judgement to empathy.



When you see someone with that green ring, what’s your first thought?



Do you see a professional ready for new opportunities—or do you assume desperation?



Here’s the reality:



✅ The job market is tough right now—especially in tech.



✅ Redundancies, and contract terminations are hitting skilled professionals hard.



✅ People who once thrived in stable roles are now displaced—not by their own doing, but by a volatile and unpredictable economy.



The green hashtag


hashtag#OpenToWork frame isn’t a cry for pity—it’s a symbol of courage.


It says: I’m here, I’m available, and I’m ready for what’s next.



And yet…



Thoughts and judgement like “desperate,” “unemployed for a reason,” or “not in demand” still circulate.



But let’s reframe this:



✅ Job seekers with the green frame are proactive.



✅ They’re motivated.



✅ They’re showing up every day to rebuild their careers—despite the challenges.



Are they desperate? Hell yeah, they need a job to get their lives back to normality. Should they be judge for being desperate? How would you feel? What do you think?



Consider this:



If you’re not a job seeker today, chances are you will be at some point. When that day comes, what will be your plan to quickly get a job. Are you ready to be judged if you use the green ring?



Job seekers are already navigating a system filled with challenges:



• Recruitment processes that lack transparency.



• Job ads that lead nowhere.



• Recruiters who ghost them.



They’re doing everything they can to regain stability in their lives.



So instead of judging, why not offer support?



A kind word.



A lead.



Even a simple “like” or "comment" on their post—it all helps.

2️⃣ Recognise the talent and determination it represents.



3️⃣ Offer empathy—not judgement.
